Get Fleurty with me!

When I first laid eyes on Curvy Kate's Fleurty from their 2012 Spring/Summer collection, I knew I had to have it. Its pretty but unusual combination of a coral base with blue overlay and circular cut-out pattern really hit a chord with me but with me being a bargain hunter, I knew that this set would eventually surface in a sale or on Brastop, stockists of big bras from past seasons for low prices. So I waited, and eventually there it was! It's currently on offer for £18.95 for the bra and £9,95 for the shorts.

The strikingly pretty colours of Fleurty

As always, I consulted my trusty team of busty friends to find out how the Fleurty fitted in size compared to Curvy Kate's Tempt Me, which I wear in a 28H, and it was agreed that I try a 28HH. wo cup sizes larger than my 'usual' size of 28GG.

The Fleurty is a balcony bra and unusually for the Showgirl range the band seems true to size! Since there is quite a lot of detail on the cups, the lumpiness of the pattern and pleating at the bottom of the cups can be seen quite easily under tight fitting clothes. This can be remedied by wearing a seamless cami over the top. The back of the bra is plain.

A close-up of the detailing on the bra

As for the shorts, after a spot of trial and error, I ended up with a size 18. To be honest I was somewhere between the 16 and 18, but the 18 offered less muffin top, so I went for those. I don't mind what the label says as long as it fits, but I am concerned that this kind of sizing may rule out a genuine size 18 lady from getting comfortable pants to match the bra. The front of the shorts echoes the design of the front of the bra and the back is a double layer of blue mesh.

The amazing detail on the shorts

So, here's the set, aint it gorgeous?! I couldn't be happier with the fit, it's spot on!

Tah-dahhhh!!

In my opinion, this is the best fitting Curvy Kate bra I've tried yet, and sadly, it's the first and last of the Fleurtys! Apparently it didn't sell too well. Perhaps it was the unusual colour combination or the bulk of the detailing. Either way, I'm gutted. Please, Curvy Kate, consider reintroducing Fleurty, even if it meant a few tweaks in the details. It's a stunning bra!

Do you like the colour combination?

  1. My own enthusiasm increased markedly when I got to the close up photos of the bra and knickers and could see the sheerness and lovely embroidery of the blue overlay and the coral colour showing through. Then I got to the "Tah-dahhhh!!" photo of you modeling it. Absolutely stunning!! Yes, I like the colour combination and after seeing how it looks modeled I'm wondering whether I should buy a set for myself. How full is the cut of the pants in the back? I'd imagine that view looks lovely as well. P.S.: That's a lovely calendar-worthy Pin-Up photo of you!

    1. Hey! Thanks for reading again! The shorts are full coverage at the back, with no seams on the bottom, meaning no VPL :)

  2. I had to have this bra as soon as I saw it too. Just gorgeous. But a lot of people think it looks like seashells, I think.

I ended up going with a 34H (from my usual 34GG) and it's a pretty good fit for me. The center gore doesn't tack to my chest, but I think an HH would be too big in the cups and I couldn't go much higher under the arms either. So I think it's a slight shape mismatch, but I love it so much. I usually wear it under my button-up shirts since it has a minimizing effect from the side on me, so gives me an extra inch or so, which is helpful.

    1. I've not actually worn mine yet for a substantial amount of time. I was hoping to wait until the winter so I can wear it under chunky knitwear so I don't have to worry about it being lumpy!

If the centre gore isn't sitting flat against your chest, you might need a smaller band by the way ;)

  3. I never liked this bra at all, never got the colors, never got the design. But then again, I really am not a CK fan

  4. Hi! It's my first time commenting here, and I'm loving your blog. I got here because I was trying to find reviews of Curvy Kate panties, and you have a bunch of CK reviews! I saw in an old post that you bought the Ella set in black. I did buy the bra and I love it, and now want to buy the panties while Brastop still have them.

I'm having trouble with the sizing, though, and you got me confused, because you said that the Ella shorts in 16 were huge, while the Fleurty (which are so, so pretty) is 18.

You see, I'm not in the UK, so I'm really in the dark when it comes to UK sizes. Here in Brazil I always wear medium-sized panties, but the ones I buy (which include the sloggis) stretch quite a bit (I actually prefer this way, because there's a bit of fat in my belly and I like when the panties hold everything in place, you know). I don't know if the Curvy Kate panties stretch. As someone who buys them frequently, would you say the CK panties stretch a lot? What do you think that someone with 42" hips should buy?

    1. Hi! Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoy it.

I've found the sizes in CK bottoms to be hit and miss. For example, I wear a 16 in Tease Me, an 18 in Fleurty and in the Ella I'd need a 12 I think.

My hips at their fullest are 39", and 36" at their smallest (where the waistband sits).

Which pants are you thinking of in particular? I'll try my best to help you get the correct size. Please also bear in mind I like mine to fit without any muffin top, hence I buy them bigger than my actual dress size of 8-10.

    2. I'm thinking about the Ella shorts. My hips are 42" at their fullest, and 39" where the waistband sits. However, I think I like my panties I bit tighter than you - not enough to look like they're in the wrong size, but enough to hold everything in place, you know. What would you suggest?

Also, just read your post on the vintage dresses. Showed it to my Mom and will demand she makes some of those dresses for me, they're so, so pretty!

    3. I'm going to take a guess at a 16 or 18 for you. It was AGES ago when I tried the set, but I remember those shorts being pretty huge on me. They are very low cut in the front though, so they wouldn't hold much in I don't think. If I were you I'd buy both sizes and ebay the ones that don't fit since they're so cheap.

You're very lucky to have a mom that can make clothes! If she does make something for you I'd love to see some pictures :)

    4. The problem with my Mom is that she takes forever to do stuff... unless she's pretty excited about something. Last week she made a crochet Bambi rug to my cousin's baby super fast (and the baby won't be here for another six weeks, LOL).

Thank you for the advice! I'll wait until Brastop offers a 50 percent discount on the shipping (shipping to Brazil is ridiculously expensive there), and I'll try it.

  5. Hi,
I was wondering if you could tell me what the fit of the fleurty is like compared to the thrill me?
    Thanks :)

    1. Hi and thanks for reading. My Thrill Me's are a 28H, the same as Tease Me, so going up a cup worked for me. It's only a rough guide though, as all boobs are different in shape, size and volume is distributed differently. Hope this helps :)

  6. That definitely helps. Thank you!

  7. I've wanted this bra ever since I saw sneek peaks of it. To me, it's an all around breath taking bra! I'm still pretty puzzled as to why it wasn't really popular. Hoping to get it for Christmas :)

By the way, I nominated you for a Liebster Award!

  8. Like Christina, I've wanted this bra ever since I saw the promos as well. I finally got one from BreakoutBras this summer and, um, it doesn't fit. At all. I sized down because Invest In Your Chest preferred the fit that way, but seeing that you needed a 28HH makes me think that I should have sized up as well! I can cram my breasts in the 28G I bought, but it's clearly a pipe dream. I wear 28GG Panache Tango Balconette and get the slightest quadraboob on a 28GG Freya Faye. Do you have advice for whether I should get an H or go all the way to HH like you?

    1. I'm so sorry it's taken me forever to reply! I suggest you order a number of different sizes in the same bra. It's the only way of ensuring an accurate fit sadly.

  9. Omg....so I've had to sew up this bra a number of times because it's such a good fit. :( what would you suggest as a substitute. I desperately need new bras! (Sorry I know this post is old!)

    1. I've not tried it but the Curvy Kate Ritzy might be worth a go, and the Curvy Kate longline Carmen looks to be the exact same shape only on a longline. I'd also recommend the Masquerade Rhea and the Delphi. If you're not afraid of ordering from Poland, Ewa Michalak do some really nice balcony bras. I've never tried them but CurvyWordy has an extensive knowledge of them! http://www.curvywordy.com/2011/12/understanding-different-ewa-michalak.html
